| Biography Constantin-Adi Gavrilă, founding member and manager of Craiova Mediation Center, president of the Romanian Mediation Centers Union and vicepresident of the first Mediation Council, is an engineer, a jurist and a mediator, dedicating a great part of his professional activity to mediation, ADR management and mediators` training since 2002. Mister Gavrilă was born on the 11th of March 1976 in Craiova city, Dolj county, Romania.
In 1994 he graduated the special computers section of The National College "Nicolae Balcescu" in Craiova during which he took part in local and national informatics scholar contests. Since 1994 he attended the courses of the Automation, Computers and Electronics College from the University of Craiova, which he graduated in 1999, as head of class, receiving the title of engineer in Systems and Computers Science profile, Automation and Industrial Informatics specialization. In 2001 he obtained the master degree in Complex Systems Automation and in 2002 he graduated a three semester professional conversion program, called Technological Education.
In 2006 he graduated "Nicolae Titulescu" Law School, from The University of Craiova, obtaining his diploma in Judicial Sciences, paper degree in "Conflict resolution through mediation". He started his professional activity during his college, working as a commercial agent or IT consultant, and during the summer holidays in England as a supervisor or bay-boy at a fruit farm in an international project. In this project there are involved 500 students yearly from tens of countries.
After inventorying the books and creating inventory software for the Dolj Bar Association Library, he was hired as a librarian in 1999. After the implementation of an informatics system for the management of the Dolj Bar Association activity, Mr. Gavrilă continued working as a computers engineer starting with 2000. Between 2001 and 2003 he worked as an academic assistant at the Automation, Computers and Electronics College. Starting with 2002, he was introduced to the mediator`s profession fallowing a seminar organized by the Dolj Bar Association and the Cultural Centre of the USA Embassy in Romania. In February 2003 he receives a diploma after taking a mediation course organized by the International Judicial Academy, USA in Washington DC. During 2004-2006, Mr. Gavrilă was trained in: advanced techniques in mediation, training mediation trainers, training trainers for mediation trainers. In May 2003, he organizes a course in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, USA Embassy in Romania and Dolj Bar Association, at Gura Vaii, Mehedinti County, in which 20 persons were trained as professional mediators. Starting with autumn 2003, Mr. Gavrilă has been the manager of Mediation Pilot Center in Craiova, the center being organized following an order of the Ministry of Justice and financed by the USA Embassy in Romania. Starting with 2003, he coordinated as a manager extended programs in mediation: part of the legislature process in the mediation field, training of mediators, systems development, and information dissemination. As a manager of the Mediation Center in Craiova, Mr. Gavrilă coordinated the national training program of mediators during 2004 and 2006, in which 10 lawyers from every county of Romania were trained, and thus there were formed mediation centers in each county. In 2005, these centers formed the Romanian Mediation Centers Union federation. Being elected president of Romanian Mediation Centers Union in 2005, Mr. Gavrilă took part, along with other experienced mediators from the United States of America and the European Union, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and USA Embassy in Bucharest, in tens of conferences and seminars both all over the country and abroad. He also articles published in Romania and abroad (e.g. ACR-International Spring 2004 - "Mediation - Romanian style" together with Kathleen Patterson). The Mediation Center in Craiova started Consensus Publishing House that aims at being a reference point regarding the mediation field both within our country and abroad. Together with other colleagues, Mr. Gavrilă represented the Mediation Center in Craiova at a series of seminars having as main theme the project law regarding Mediation and the organization of the mediator`s profession. The seminars were financed by the Great Britain Embassy and they were organized in Bucharest by the Conflict Management International from London.
Following a thorough selection process, he becomes a member of the first Mediation Council in Romania, being validated in 2006 by an order of the minister of justice. Mr. Gavrilă was elected vice-president of the Mediation Council in Romania. He is married and he has two children.
